Safe, Gentle Ear Piercing for Children and Adults

Whether it is your child’s first pair of earrings, a new piercing for yourself or an additional lobe or cartilage piercing, you can relax knowing you are in experienced hands.

I am fully qualified and insured to perform ear piercing using the professional Studex piercing system and have more than 10 years of experience piercing clients of all ages.

Children’s ears can be pierced from four months old, subject to parental consent and their vaccinations being up to date.

Why Choose the Studex Piercing System?

The Studex system provides a safe, hygienic, quiet and gentle piercing experience.

Unlike a traditional spring-loaded piercing gun, the Studex instrument is operated using controlled hand pressure. The piercing stud is delivered gently and accurately, helping to minimise unnecessary tissue trauma and making the experience more comfortable.

Benefits include:

  • A quiet and gentle piercing experience
  • Controlled hand pressure rather than a loud, spring-loaded gun
  • Sterilised, single-use piercing cartridges
  • A contactless delivery system for excellent hygiene
  • The piercing instrument does not touch the ear
  • Accurate positioning and precise piercing
  • High-quality piercing studs suitable for sensitive ears
  • A secure backing designed to leave space around the piercing while it heals
  • A wide choice of beautiful stud styles and finishes

Studex is trusted by professional piercing and medical practitioners around the world for its focus on hygiene, safety, quality and precision.

  • Gold and silver-coloured finishes
  • Classic plain studs
  • Sparkling stone and diamante styles
  • Different shapes, sizes and designs
  • Hypoallergenic options for sensitive ears
  • Upgraded earring options

I keep a wide selection of studs in stock. However, if you have a particular colour, shape, metal or design in mind, please include this when booking. I can check availability, provide an accurate quote and arrange to have your preferred earrings ready for your appointment.

What Happens During Your Appointment?

Your comfort and satisfaction are important throughout the appointment.

First, you will choose your new piercing studs from the available selection.

Your hands and ears will then be carefully sanitised. I will mark the proposed position of each piercing so that you can check the placement in the mirror and make sure you are completely happy before we continue.

Once the placement has been agreed, your ear or ears will be pierced using the Studex system.

After your piercing, I will explain the healing process and provide full aftercare guidance so that you know how to care for your beautiful new piercings at home.

Ear-Piercing Aftercare

Following the correct aftercare routine is essential to help your piercing heal properly and reduce the risk of irritation or infection.

What You Should Do

Always wash your hands thoroughly before touching your ears or piercing studs.

Clean the front and back of each piercing twice a day using your Studex aftercare solution. Do not remove the studs while cleaning the piercing.

After applying the solution, gently rotate each stud a quarter turn to the left and then a quarter turn to the right. Do not continuously spin the earrings, as this can cause irritation or allow hair to become wrapped around the post.

Keep the piercing area clean and dry between applications.

Avoid allowing hairspray, shampoo, soap, perfume, cosmetics and other products to come into contact with the piercing.

After washing your hair, rinse the ears with clean water, apply the Studex aftercare solution and carefully dry the surrounding area.

Always clean and dry the piercing after bathing, swimming or exercise.

Check regularly that the butterfly backing remains positioned at the tip of the piercing post. The earring must remain loose enough to allow air circulation and accommodate minor swelling during healing.

How Long Should the Piercing Studs Stay In?

With standard Studex aftercare solution:

  • Leave lobe piercing studs in continuously for at least six weeks.
  • Leave cartilage piercing studs in continuously for at least 12 weeks.

With Studex Advanced After Piercing Solution:

  • Suitable lobe piercing studs may be changed after three weeks.
  • Cartilage piercing studs may be changed after eight weeks.

Once the initial healing period has passed, replace the piercing studs with good-quality, post-style earrings.

Post-style earrings should be worn continuously during the first six months following the piercing. Choose earrings made from surgical-grade stainless steel, titanium, gold or another suitable hypoallergenic material.

What You Should Avoid

Do not remove the piercing studs before the recommended healing period has passed.

Do not touch, twist or handle the piercing unnecessarily.

Do not push the butterfly backing tightly against the ear. The butterfly should remain positioned towards the end of the post so that the earring stays loose during healing.

Do not allow the piercing to remain wet after bathing, swimming, washing your hair or exercising.

Do not change the earrings early unless you are using the appropriate advanced aftercare product and have followed the recommended healing period.

Redness, Tenderness and Swelling

A small amount of tenderness or redness immediately after piercing can be normal and should usually settle within approximately 48 hours when the correct aftercare routine is followed.

Seek medical advice if you experience:

  • Increasing or excessive pain
  • Significant swelling
  • Redness that spreads or becomes worse
  • Heat around the piercing
  • Persistent bleeding or discharge
  • Symptoms that do not begin to settle
  • Any other symptoms that cause concern

Do not remove the piercing stud before receiving medical advice, as removing it may allow the outside of the piercing to close while trapping infection inside.

Additional Care for Cartilage Piercings

Cartilage piercings require additional care because cartilage has a different blood supply and can take longer to heal than the ear lobe.

Avoid sleeping directly on a new cartilage piercing and take care when using phones, headphones, hats, hairbrushes and hair-styling tools.

Minor tenderness or redness immediately after piercing can be normal and should begin to settle with proper aftercare.

However, significant pain, swelling, redness, heat or discharge around a cartilage piercing requires prompt medical advice.

Do not remove a cartilage piercing stud unless advised to do so by an appropriate medical professional. Delaying medical advice or failing to follow the aftercare instructions may result in complications or permanent damage to the cartilage.
